Become a Sponsor of our Life-Skills Empowerment Programs

In 1989, the Interfaith Assembly, in partnership with New York Catholic Charities established a program to assist men and women to recover from the trauma associated with their homelessness and begin to rebuild their lives. To date, over 1,000 individuals have graduated from these programs with very encouraging results. Since 2008, with support from a private family foundation, and in collaboration with other faith and community partners, the Assembly has helped establish additional programs including those to serve men and women returning home from prison, and women made homeless as a result of domestic violence. This fall, we will be launching our newest program - “Homecoming” for military veterans who are or have been homeless.

The program’s effectiveness results from its comprehensive nature: the combination of goal setting with mentors, conversations with experts on topics of value to our participants, and the opportunity for participants to share their personal stories of recovery with their mentors and peers. This augmented by a very personalized case work approach in the context of a peer support group helps the participants on the road to recovering from the trauma associated with their homelessness.

Beginning in early October, the Assembly and our partners will be offering our Life-Skills Empowerment Programs at 8 different sites- and the entire process will be the subject of a “demonstration project” funded through the New York Community Trust. As part of our program, participants share a family style meal with their peers, meet with a mentor to help them in articulating and working towards achieving their personal goals - and can receive a stipend of up to $500 for program attendance.

The support from you and others is central to help make our programs the great success that they are.you can help by becoming a program sponsor in one or more of the following ways:
