Tell Congress to Fully Fund the Serve America Act
Congress recently passed the Serve America Act that greatly expanded the nation’s civilian service corps of young persons. Included in this expansion was provision for volunteers to be placed with organizations working to preserve and create more affordable housing. Unfortunately, Congress may be reneging on this good deed as it makes crucial decisions regarding federal spending.
We need to let Congress know that we want to see full funding for the Serve America Act. While Congress faces difficult budget choices, it is clear that we need to fully fund a program that gives young people the opportunity to place their considerable talents in service to communities throughout the United States. You should be aware that Habitat NYC and Habitat International both depend on Americorps volunteers to help build houses for families and communities in need. Service to our communities is an American tradition that is worth the investment. It is what we need to help lift families, communities, and our country out of these tough times.
Please contact your members of Congress today about fully funding the Serve America Act.
